IEP

Individualized Education Program

What is an IEP?

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a legal plan that highlights a student’s strengths, needs, services, and goals to help them access their education. It describes how a disability impacts learning and participation, ensuring the student gets the right support.

In Physical Education, the IEP outlines what a student needs to take part safely and successfully. This might involve adaptations, accommodations, or Adapted Physical Education (APE), which is specialized PE instruction included in the IEP when necessary. PE and APE teachers use it to guide lessons and help students develop motor skills, confidence, and independence.

" Disability is not a brave struggle or courage in the face of adversity. Disability is an art. It's an ingenious way to live.
